What is it?
Basically it’s a facial roller made using stones, usually jade although you can get other stones like rose quartz. Generally, jade rollers have two ends: one containing a larger sized stone (intended for the forehead, cheeks, jawline, and neck) and one containing a smaller stone (for the under eyes.). They are used to massage the skin and date back to 17th century China. They may be on trend right now but they aren’t a new invention!
How to use it:
You always want to make sure your jade roller is clean before using. Use a damp cloth to gently wipe it. Do not use very hot water and definitely do not soak it. It is recommended that you start on your neck and move up towards your jaw/face, rolling it upwards in strokes (not back and forth). We tend to carry a lot of tension in our jaw so you may feel some tightness there as you massage it! The stone has a cool feel and for an even colder jolt you can store it in the fridge! Cold helps reduce puffiness too.
Jade rolling helps with lymphatic drainage (lymphatic system is a network of tissues and organs just below the skin that helps to rid the body of toxins and waste) in the face which reduces swelling/puffiness. Some cultures see jade as a symbol of prosperity and believe jade stones absorb negative energy. Jade rolling will also boost blood circulation which plumps and firms face as well as helps products absorb better into your skin.
I think any time you can add some form of massage into your life, it’s going to be a good thing. It’s good self care. It feels luxe. It doesn’t have to be jade rolling but if you enjoy that, go for it! I am loving it right now. It feels relaxing and the cooling effect is refreshing for me. I do find that it helps depuff my under eye area and it really helps me relax my jaw muscles. I do it every morning as part of my skin care routine now!
