I started choosing a word for the year instead of setting resolutions a few years ago. I love it! I love that it is more open ended and not so much about reaching a particular goal. There’s less pressure and more room to grow which is what you really want a new year to be about, right?
Last year my word was ‘daring’ and I’ll be honest, there were multiple times during the year where I felt like I was failing at that! I chose the word daring because I really wanted to be better about going outside my comfort zone! It wasn’t really about doing crazy brave things. I’d read the book Daring Greatly by Brene Brown and that was where the word came from.
One thing I’ve noticed with choosing a word of the year is that the end of the year, when you look back, you can really see how that word helped shape your year. Last year my husband and I bought our first house, I had a home birth, we found out we’d be moving a lot sooner than we thought… and while I didn’t always feel brave in looking back I can see now that I was more open to new things and that when things didn’t go my away, I was a little more graceful (which I think is brave in its own way).
I also think it’s a good idea to let the word you choose come to you. Intuition is something that came up when I was talking to a life coach and I knew right away it was meant to be my word for the following year! You don’t have to have a word by Jan 1, just let it come to you. There’s no rush.
So, why is intuition my word for 2018? Because I want to be true to myself. I want to make sure I’m doing things because I want to and not necessarily because its expected of me. I want to get better at trusting my gut. I’ve had this very strong feeling of wanting to unapologetically be myself, to stop always feeling a need to explain or apologize or ask permission or to be submissive.
Now as much as I love putting my word out into the universe and seeing what manifests… I also think having some action steps is important! I plan to…
– Use my tarot cards more
– Learn more about crystals/gemstones and use the ones I have
– Say “no” more
– Try new styles and take more “risks” with my outfits
– Revamp my private coaching
along with whatever else I think of! I look forward to the end of the year and seeing just where this word “intuition” really took me!
