It’s no secret that vegan-friendly products are the rise! More and more people are turning to plant based products whether it’s for health reasons, the environment or for animal-rights. One product that I’ve really seen explode is vegan eggnog! There are SO many options now! So I decided to try a few (okay, five) to see which one was the BEST!
I always liked eggnog growing up although I often thinned it out with some regular milk because it was SO thick. So for me, a great vegan eggnog is a little thick and has that “egg” taste but lots of spices too. The ones below are free of dairy, eggs and any other animal products.
Keep reading to see which was my favorite!
First I tried the Califia Farms Holiday Nog Almond Milk nog. It definitely wasn’t thick. The consistency was just like regular almond milk and it had a definitely “almond” after taste. Still, the flavoring was really delicious! Not TOO sweet and I could really taste the cinnamon and nutmeg spices. Yum! I’d repurchase this one again but I do wish it was thicker.
And then the SoDelicious Coconut Milk Holiday Nog. This one is quite popular so I really thought I’d love it but… nope! It was actually the only one I DISLIKED. I would not purchase it again. Why? SO SWEET. Not surprising seeing as it has the most sugar at 15g per 1/2 cup. Way too sweet for me! It wasn’t thick either.
Later I tried the Silk Almond Nog Original. Silk has a couple different options but looking at the packaging, I really couldn’t see the difference so I just grabbed this one. This one was fewer calories but both were labelled “original”, so I’m not sure what was up with that. I remember it coming in a green carton in the past and really loving it. That said, not the best. It wasn’t bad but again, not thick and the flavour wasn’t as good as the Califa one.
Finally I tried AlmondBreeze Almond Milk Nog. YOU GUYS. I was so excited when I started pouring this into my glass and saw that it was thick!! No, not super thick like traditional eggnog but definitely thicker than typical non dairy milk. And…. delicious!!! This was the most traditional as far as taste and consistency. A bit sweeter than the Califa one and if I’m being picky, I would prefer to taste the cinnamon more…. but still, my favorite. I absolutely loved it and would recommend it to anyone!
I did also try the Vanilla Chai Spice nog by Almond Breeze. Yum! I really liked the chai flavour in this but obviously if you’re going for a traditional taste, this isn’t the one for you. If you want something a little different and love chai? Get this!
Next I need to try making my own!!
Which vegan eggnogs have you tried?? Which is YOUR favorite?
