Now more than ever I feel so clear on what my style is.  I used to feel pulled in so many directions and I’d end up with purchases that would only get worn once or twice.  It wasn’t that I didn’t love the items themselves, they just didn’t really work with either the rest of my wardrobe or my lifestyle!

If you’re struggling with that, seriously look into creating a capsule/minimal wardrobe. You don’t have to go crazy but just start defining your wardrobe!  Pay attention what you wear most and what you wear least.  What colors do you actually wear?  Be excited about the items you own!  Buy things that you love on YOU, not just on other people.  Be practical but still have some fun with it.  Create your own rules.

One thing I like to do is create a Pinterest board for each season. In the 6 weeks or so leading up to the new season, I start pinning outfits I know I will want to be wearing.  I think about what I have already in my closet and find outfits I can create.  I look at what I feel is “missing” from my closet and come up with a few items I want to purchase.  I see what my color scheme looks like. I also notice what didn’t get much wear the season before and either sell or donate those items.  It helps me get really clear on what I want my Fall wardrobe to look like (I’m a visual person so pictures are great)!

I pack away my heavier clothes during Summer so now that Fall is approaching, I’ve pulled them back out and gone through them. It’s a great way to feel like you have “new clothes” without spending any money! Again, it helps you see what your seasonal wardrobe is missing or needs more of.

So far, for Fall, I have purchased these peep toe booties, a plaid shirt, a rust orange cardigan, a burgundy skirt and a mustard yellow dress.   They all fit into my wardrobe seamlessly!   I like to try out trends but I’ve learned now to jump on EVERY trend and to be picky about which I spend money on.  Peep toe booties are trendy but will be around for a while plus I can wear them in Spring as well!  The other items are much more classic.

On my wish list still is a pair of pointed patent faux-leather penny loafers! ASOS has some really cute affordable ones, just not in my size! Check out thesethese and these!
